I ordered a new O-ring locally for the Jetaway transmission check tube. But it seems to be to large, it is impossible to get it into the groove in the hole, it just won't get in there. Does someone have such an o-ring to check the outer diameter? mine is 25,2 mm, just shy of an inch. I feel it would need to be about 23mm to be able to fit. The guys who sold it are dead sure it is the right part.
Or am i just a complete idiot who can't fit a simple o-ring....

Is the sectional thickness the correct dimension?  If it is too thick, before installing it into the groove on the tube, the O.D. of the ring would then be too big.
It is a tight fit though.  I assume you did lube the ring first, and no, I don't think you are an idiot.
Good luck.

I didn't think there was a groove in the hole.   The groove is in the tube, and that just slips into the hole, and the sides of the hole in conjunction with groove in the tube, stop the oil from leaking out.

I'm sorry I don't know the O'ring dimensions. But, on the 63 jet away transmission the O'ring fits into a recessed grove in the transmission case. The tube sides into the case after installing the O'ring. HTH

Oh yes Bruce, there is a groove in the hole! After overhauling 25 or 30 such transmissions, I do know it!
Sometimes, that O-ring is difficult to insert, especially if the transmission is installed in the car. Sorry, I don't have the dimension of that ring.

Thanks Roger.

You can see that I have never worked on a Jetaway.

Thanks all for the replies. The old o-ring was so hard and stuck into the groove that i had to use a dremel to et it out, the only possible alternative is that i did not manage to get it all out, but feeling with an angled piece of metal it sure feels like clean metal all the way in there. I just resorted to using a smaller o-ring hoping it will seal well enough.
