Hi All, My 57 Eldo has a loud ticking noise coming from the water pump.
No signs of leaks or seepage and none of the high pitched squeal.
Does anyone rebuild them if not what is the best source for a replacement?
Thanks in advance

Forget about a replacement.  Most of what's
available are Chinese junk.  Also, bad rebuilds
abound.

Have your original pump rebuilt.  Here is who I've
used.  He's been in business for years and does
quality work:

Thanks for the tip, I am in Vancouver so getting it sent across the country and border and back may take too much time, so I will go for a rebuild kit from www.cadillacpartsltd.com/19cawapureki4.html  however I will use Arthur Gould for my fuel pump in the fall as it occasionally seeps very small amounts of gas and I have changed the gaskets

The Tassie Devil(le)

G'day Robert,

I take it you have checked the fan belt for degradation, and looked at the pulley for cracks?

Plus, have you tried to remove the fan belt and start the engine to ensure that the pump itself is ticking?

I have never heard of a Water Pump "ticking" as when they are going bad, they "growl" as the bearing destroys itself.

You might also try removing the belt from the water pump and just spinning the fan to see if it still ticks.  If there is looseness in the bearing it is possible that a fin on the water pump impeller is hitting the inside of the housing--doubtful, but possible.  I would think if this is the cause of the sound, the high fin would "wear in" and become quieter.  Was the water pump recently rebuilt?

My garage initially thought it was the timing chain or sprockets but when sourcing the sound they took the fan belt off the water pump and the ticking stopped. It is not a new pump but has been rebuilt and would not have 1000 miles on it since the rebuild.
Thanks for the suggestions
