I am restoring my 1956 62 dash, the lower portion that is painted, does anyone know the correct level of gloss that the paint should be to match the original factory shine?

Dan LeBlanc

The standard would be basically an unpolished lacquer look - a little bit of sheen, but not mirror finish.  Slightly glossier than basecoat before clearcoat is applied.

Sounds like a satin finish might work.

It's not a satin, but a gloss level very close to the
paint on the body color.  Is your lower dash color
the same as the body color?  On my '55 they are.
However, that is not always the case.  It depends on
what the interior trim colors are.

I painted mine alpine white with the same paint as my roof.
