The cam in my 64 Coupe deVille is shot. 429 gurus, where are you finding cams, and which are you using?? Thanks in advance!
The photo is of some of the damage.

If you just want a stock replacement, Melling makes one:

If you are looking for something "hotter", Howards makes custom performance cams for them.  If you've never run a custom camshaft, it's worth the money.  They can make them for bottom end, midrange, top end, MPG, etc. and are designed to go with your specific application:

There is very little out there to "soup-up" 429s, be careful and use moderation when attempting to do so.

A company by the name of Daytona Cams sold me a cam that really woke up my 66’s 429 without sacrificing idle
Or fire economy.

If you want to really wake the engine up, and at the same time get good fuel economy, and just basic driving, then I would be recommending what is commonly called a RV Cam.

These give really good low revs torque, but sort of run out of "puff" at around 4,000 RPM, but in normal street use, one hardly ever goes over 3,000 RPM.

Plus, the engine will idle very smoothly.

Thanks gang! Not many sources for a cam for this thing. I'm thinking to go with a cam that Kanter sells as a mild performance cam. I believe Jason Edge used this cam and likes it. I haven't puled the bad one out just yet. I can't wait to see what it looks like out of the engine.

Last one I got was from Terrill in Texas. I believe it was made by Elgin. Worked fine.   Joe Gibeault

Always know where your aiming an shooting for.
Kanter just peddles someone else's product.   So you're probably getting a name or foreign produced item.
Isky used to supply for Cadillac.   I don't know if the Cad racing team put out any product?
With big inch motors you need to take advantage of the torque curve and your automatic might need "tuned".   Fuel will increase when you step on it.
Just remember, what goes faster has to stop better.   Hurdling a giant down the pike, requires some Xtra "whoa"...
Suspension might want a freshening too.   Worse thing would be to make a nice wheel hopper.

I sourced my camshaft thru Kanter back in 2012. It was a Camcraft Performance Camshaft, Part # 83-1818.  Camcraft is based here in NC and have seen this cam sold thur various "convenience" retailers such as Kanter and others. I was very pleased with the camshaft and have posted the specs below. If someone wants to go with this camshaft I would search around for best price.

There was more discussion about this camshaft on the 63/64 Cadillac site at this link: http://6364cadillac.ning.com/forum/topics/cam-grind-opinions?commentId=6543066%3AComment%3A111869

Camcraft Performance Cams website is at www.camcraftcams.com

Here are the specs of the camshaft they offer:

.050 Duration: 218/218
