Looking for information about what Figured Cloth is.  I am restoring a 1936 Cadillac 7057 which calls for Blue-Grey Figured Cloth Wiese 4724.  SMS did not know what it was.  Any help would be appreciated.

Keith,

I can’t give an exact answer but this may help your research. The name “Figured Cloth” is used in 1941-47 Series 75 trim codes: Trim 94 - Tan figured Cloth and Trim 98 - Gray Figured Cloth. I suspect, but am not certain, it’s the same as used in 1936. There are a number of members on this board who have restored ‘41’s and ‘42s and have extensive references to share. Hopeful one will come along and see this post. To draw more attention it may help to place a new post titled: “Help 1941-47”

Blue-Gray Figured Cloth, Weiss 4724 or its Cadillac number 11T136, was offered from 1936 to 1938.  It could have been available prior to 1936 but I don't have parts books that go back further than that.

Cadillac didn't offer a "figured cloth" again (that I can tell) until 1941 when it was available until 1947 (in gray) and 1948 (in tan).  My 1942 series 75 came with tan figured cloth.  When it came time to redo the interior in that car in 2005, none of the vendors had any such cloth.  When I dropped off my car at the upholsterer's shop, I was admiring a mid 1930s Pierce Arrow he was just finishing.  He had upholstered the car in gray "figured cloth" - a dead match for my original pattern but in gray instead of tan.  Alas, he used all of the material he had on the Pierce (which he had for years).  Sooooo close....

If it helps you, attached is a scan of the tan and gray figured cloths used in the 1940s.  These are from the Fleetwood upholstery book for 1942.  Please note that I can't say if this was the same pattern offered on the Weiss cloth - but it is what Cadillac used in the 1940s.

Now that we think we have a patter, we need the color.  Doe anyone have an example of what blue-grey cloth looks like?  I realize that there may be many differing shades but I cannot find an interior with Blue-Grey.  Specifically looking for 36-38 blue grey.

The car we have was a special order with blue-grey figured cloth seats.  Thanks in advance

Keith,

I thought of another possible way to research this.  Since the cloth was from an outside vendor, Weiss, it is possible the cloth was also used in other high-end automobiles during that time period.  Consider posting on the AACA's board (https://forums.aaca.org/) providing the description and Weiss number of the cloth.  Perhaps someone there has additional information other than just Cadillac specific uses.  Worth a shot.
