Not having the correct tool, I improvised, but don't know if I spread the arm enough, or too much, or whatever...

Anyone know how to tell?  Pic shows the arm and the tools I used.

Great improvisation Bill,

If the bushings are sitting fully-seated in their holes, and the cross fits, then it should be good to go.

Thanks, Bruce.  Yes, the bushings cranked all the way down, though they were stubborn.  I sprayed the threads with penetrating oil as the shop manual recommends, but still took a lot of effort with each turn after the first few.

The shaft turns without too much effort, though not loosey goosey.

I don’t see the grease fittings for the bushings.

The manual sometimes have reference dimensions for the width of the arm.

I have done that a few times, and is not an easy job. The shaft should offer resistance to spinning, but not get jammed.

Jon S, I put the grease fittings on after this pic.

novetti, sounds like it's right then....it offers some resistance.  I probably should have checked how it operated before removing the old shaft.

Thanks, guys!
