Whilst at the House of the Gods a few days ago we starting talking about The Ark's transmission, new seal, filter and
fluid to be done when the engine is replaced. Told them I using Dexron 6, and 3 grown men wanted to strangle me, they
were literally screaming at me. It seems I'll be using Type F if I value my relationship there, LOL!

The question is not whether Type F is the correct fluid to use, that's been answered.
The question is which manufacturer of Type F are you using and why. And they've already said
"Just use NAPA", which is fine. But I'm interested in what else is out there.

I use the latest Dexron version which is supposed to be compatible for the turbo 400. I’ve not heard that type f should be used. I’d put a pause on that until you run that into a corner. Talk with a couple of transmission shops and call the fluid manufacturers to see what they say. I’ll continue to use Dexron and not type f.

I would assume type F is just like earlier Dexron versions were GM or Ford no longer has any say or cares what anyone says on their label or puts in the bottles.  You could be getting just about anything.  You do start to wonder what we are buying most of the time.   Its interesting that type F still has a following being that it was only used for what 4 years staring in the late 60's?

Type F can be a little hard to find these days.   I have one car that calls of it as power steering fluid and the first time I discovered that had a heck of a time finding it.  I even tried a Ford dealer and like my usual experience when I show up with a car or looking for a part that is more than about 3 years old they laughed at me.   I was really annoyed because the car we traded for the car that needed it for power steering (a 93) used it in the transmission which leaked (a 67).  I had almost a full case of the stuff that I just left with the car when we traded it.

DEXRON VI is GM certified to be backwards compatible all the way to ATF Type A (from when my 1968 was made).

It's a better quality fluid, more resistant to heat breakdown.

My usual recommendation would be use Dexron VI.
However, here is some aditional background info.

Regarding "Type F" -- as long as it meets the Ford
specification Ford ESW-M2C33-F it's OK.  This fluid
is still being made by several U.S. oil companies
including Mobile.  That should be shown on the
bottle.  NAPA, et. Al. buy their fluids from the majors
so this should not be an issue as to which brand to use.

As far as use in your 1970 Cadillac, I have read that
some users of the Dexron VI (notably "hot rods" with
modified engines) in pre 1980 cars report better shifting
with type F than with Dexron VI since the newest
Dexron is lower viscosity (thinner) and has different
friction modifiers vs. the earlier formulations.

Dex/Merc was mentioned as a suitable fluid as well. "Just use NAPA...." They have cases of that
in the shop.

Same stuff.

I have heard nothing but good things about Lubegard Red, it lowers the operating temperature of the transmission. Heat is the main enemy of your transmission, unless you drive like a fool. Then nothing will help you, since you can't help yourself.

Recommended by many manufacturers like GM and Ford.  I have added it to all my cars back to 1959 and have had no issues in over 6 years.
