Hi everyone,
I need to know which there is the best and easiest way to remove a transmission from a 1930 (or 1929 to 1931) Cadillac.
I seem to remember that it goes out the rear by removing the rear axle with the torque tube first but not sure.
Maybe it's better along with the engine out to the front??
Anyone with any experience, please chime in.
Hilmar.

There is no easy way, front or rear both are days of work (2 guy job at least).
You go the way you like best , this also depending on your workshop equipment and space. Good luck choosing . Johan

Thank you John and Mike for your input.
I seem to remember that it best goes out to the rear.
Mike: unfortunately, the manuals are useless. I have the 1930 manual but no hint as to how to proceed.
Thanks all - Hilmar

Indeed, those manuals are not detailed at all. It seems that the mechanics from that time did know everything!

As far as I remember, the manuals sometimes referred to earlier editions where proceedings were described in more detail.
Also, the shops had their special instruction manuals, and have you heard of a 20s or 30s Cadillac owner crawling underneath with greasy fingers like ourselves??

The Cadillac workshop manuals as well as the service man bulletins were never intended as "the how to manuals on the market today. "
The trained mechanic back then as well as now, knows how a car is assembled , disassembled and repaired.
The said manuals give the technical details, needed to make the right repair, not how to get there. Can see the frustration but that's how it is .
The current lack of this knowing how, being the main reason why it's so difficult to find a mechanic for early cars, this will not get any better, as we all know.  Johan
