1977 DeVille starter motor shimming

Hello everybody,
it is recommended to shim the starter motor when replacing it = to adjust the gap between the flywheel teeth and the starter pinion. No idea how to do it. Would You know?
77 Coupe DeVille 425 ci - federal, red+ white interior

Shims should be available at an auto parts store, not all installations will require a shim or shims.
