The driver’s door hinge on my ‘61 is starting to bind. Very slightly, but I notice it, and I also know it will eventually.  Any suggestions for adjustments.  The car only has 26k on it, so doubtful that it’s worn.

You can adjust the movement at the hinge. To lift up the door a little.

Where is it binding?

I have found that when a hinge is tight, an application of a lubricant will do wonders.

Be it a spray like WD40 or a couple of drops of oil.

If it is the one with the inbuilt check mechanism, then definitely spray.

David, do you mean the door is binding on the two hinge pins, or the door latch is binding on the latch bolt?  If it is just binding on the hinge pins, use some dry graphite spray and spray the area of the hinge pins where the pins go through the bushings.  Swing the door back and forth a few times to work the lubricant into the bushings, and that should loosen things up.  The only time to change the adjustment of the hinges is to center the door in the opening so that the spacing is even all the way around.  This should only be done after new hinge pins and bushings are installed and there is still a problem with centering the door in the opening.  If the door is centered and there is still not good alignment of the door latch and the latch bolt, then the latch bolt needs to be adjusted.

The door seemed like it was binding on the hinges.  I had squirted something in there awhile back, but it didn't seem to help.  But yesterday I took off the the sheet metal covers and reached in there with my fingers and worked Lubriplate into everything I could reach.  Now it seems to be smoother. The FSM has some specific info about lubricating various body parts, but nothing about what to use on the door hinges.

I remember some mention of Lubriplate, but that might be just for the door check, as it won't flow into the bushings.
