1978 Eldorado Barritz 8 track stopped working

Enjoying one of the last few days of sunshine before the next snow, the 8 track suddenly stopped working, at least I have the radio.  How difficult is it to remove and how to troubleshoot?

Often, the original belt drive for the capstan regulator snaps due to age. The unit is relatively easy to take out IF you can manage working in tight spaces, and you have the necessary tools. I suspect that, if it is the belt, there likely are replacements.  I've also experienced what I refer to as "Cadillac curative powers." Maybe this old unit needs a "rest cure," and it will come back to life in warm weather.    James
