Howdy all,
I picked up a ‘66 convertible a few days ago. Owner assured me that all the windows worked until I came to look at the car. I got it for a good price and decided to trust that it was something minor like a fuse. I bought a new 40 Amp circuit breaker and now the windows only work if you hold the lock in the “emergency” position.
Any advice on what might be wrong and how to fix this? Thanks, Joe

Ok, for anyone else who may have window problems.  I discovered there's a relay beneath the driver kick panel, that is often the culprit.  Next job is to remove that and check it.  I found a a little video shows how to easily fix the relay if its just dirty and not making contact.
Still have another question.  My car sat for a long time unused, and the windows are really slow, and in some cases won't come all the way up.
Is there any way to lubricate, like with WD 40 Silicone sprayed down into the window channels, short of removing the door cards that will help?
Thanks.

I wouldn't spray WD40 or anything in the channel. It will mainly make a mess.

Check for binding against the weatherstripping or the convertible top rubber. If there is none, then the gears in the motor might have dried up grease and / or the regulator is binding. Either can be serviced, but in the end, new motors might be needed anyway. They are still available.

And BTW, it is a DeVille Convertible, not a Coupe deVille Convertible.  Notice the Capitalization.

Joe,
That method will only make a mess of your windows and not do anything for the problem.
The only correct way is to remove the door panels and access plates to reach all of the pivot points and channels.
