Obsessed here,

Looking around for more information about original tires from the original manufacturers - US Royal, Goodrich & Firestone.

I'd like to locate PICS and spec for the tires made for the 59 & 60 Cads.

If you have such info and especially PICS (worth more than a 1,000 words) I would appreciate your help.

Have fun,
Steve B.

Out of curiosity were the 1959 US Royals Safety 8’s or Safety 800’s?   In 1958 they were Safety 8’s and the replacements bought in 1959 were the 800’s.

Best thing to do is go to the GM Heritage archive and download the specifications/owner books for these two years and see what tires were std on what models.   Then you'll have to search the old ads to get period info.
It's a curiosity at best as none of these tires are still made.   And if you find some they won't be road worthy.   They'll be 8 x15 mostly.   They don't even measure tires like that anymore.
There's always an argument on how wide the WW should be, and everyone has their own opinions.
I prefer to pull a photo and measure by comparison from the photo(best to have a straight on shot to avoid distortion)   A digital micrometer is needed.   Some of the period brochures are lithographs from art so make sure you use a photo.  There's plenty of them out there is U look.

For repros I think Firestone looks the best.  I've also heard that the General tires are pretty decent too but I've not personally seen them in public.

It's from this book which is a compilation of road tests. If you like that article you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy- lots of great reading.

Search "Brooklands Books Cadillac 1960 - 1969"

1949-1959 too.

R. Waligora,

Thanks for the pic.

What year is that car with the tire in the trunk.

That is the upgraded tire to the 8.2 from 8 - right?

Have fun,

For OEM tires, the 8.00 15 was blackwall only. WWW is 8.20 15.
