Hello

Will a 1948 Hydra-Matic fit a 1941 346 engine which had the original 41 Hydra-Matic ?

What are the differences between 1941 and post war 1940's ?

Thanks
Rob

Rob,
Hi. I don't see why not. It's a better trans for a few different reasons. Here's some past info that might help....

The flywheel and fluid coupling cover might be different   The fluid coupling is different

The slip joint in the 41 is in the driveshaft....the slip joint in the 48 I believe is  made into the transmission

But yes the 48 can be made to fit the 41....it has been done by a number of people
But it isn't strictly bolt-in.      In past years there have been articles in the Self Starter as  to how to do this
Search the section on technical articles in the CLC  annual

Doug Houston ( no longer with us)  in particular wrote on how to do the switch...it's been many years ago.
He made the switch on several of his Cadillacs

I believe his article ( maybe articlesS)  is listed  in the technical section of the CLC annual

I think Jack Hoffman would know the details of such a conversion.  He is listed in the club directory in Iowa.

Slip joint is in the drive shaft in 1940 but in 41 it changed to the transmission with the introduction of the Hydramatic.  Stick shift changed to be the same in 41.  Slip joint in the transmission.
