Hi, I see the master parts catalog lists the 75 Eldorado Non EFI as separate from the 76-78 Non EFI tanks. Anyone know how they're different and could the 76-78 work somehow?

Anyone remember what years had the different venting?   Most years we are talking about here have the 3 lines in the sender unit one being the vent.   I know my 73 is that way and I have worked on 77-78's like that.    I don't remember if it was earlier that has some venting connections elsewhere on the tank or if there was an odd year or two where they were trying something different.

Since 75 was the first year for cat converters that indicates there were likely other emissions standards new that year so maybe 75 was the year I was thinking that had the more complex venting setup that only lasted one year?

There are lots of subtle reasons the part number could be different, but
I have often found in practice they can be physically interchanged for a
like body type.  One variation is a difference in the rear bumper affecting
the shape of the neck, that has never been enough to stop me.  I used
easily available (at the time) 68 points in my 62, just had to curl the
longer wire.  The ESS for 79 K and E only varies by the cable length.
good luck,  Bruce Roe

Yeah, same applications in the Mitchell's interchange too. The search continues. thanks.

The suggestion on the venting may have something to do with it. 1975 had other "1 year only" variances such as the charcoal vapor cannister the only year I'm aware of with 3 fittings instead of 2, a different air cleaner assembly, and a carb that had 1 more fitting on it than the '74 and '76 quadrajets. If remember right, the carb had other 1 year only features too. Does the MPB give any clues by looking at the  sender unit / outlet fitting items? It's been awhile since I had one......Joe Gibeault

Can you buy now new tanks for the Eldorado?

dennisspeaks

1965Deville, I and many others are with you in looking for gas tanks for our Eldorados, in my case a 78.  It has been suggested that the Toranados might be an option but I am not aware of anyone has done it.  This would be great because they are readily available.

Many Toro parts interchange, but no 70s Toro had EFI.  Chances are
those tanks could work.  Bruce Roe

Like I said before.Last year I talked to Spectra Premium. They told me if more people would contacted them, they would make them. So contact them

dennisspeaks

bcroe I am tempted to do just that.  The Toros gas tanks are plenty available.

1975Deville, I contacted them back then and just contacted them to find out what the magic number is.

IF the Toro's are broken up into different years I would just go with the same year.      Just like why 75 is special I would be curious what is different about the Toro.     Its pretty rare these days for someone to make a part that is identical between makes and not list it for both makes.   Its not like its hard to figure out what is the same or that you are talking about taking up space in expensive printed catalogs.    Did Olds have the filler slightly different?   Did the OE Cad tanks have better coatings on them?   Different capacity so you will need different straps?

TJ Hopland,

That would be great if there was a way to tell the differences if any, I have a non EFI car so it would be a closer match.  I am surprised that someone has not tried it yet and more so, one would think that Eldorado would have them over Toranado but that is not the case.  I have not changed a gas tank before, would the fuel sending unit even fit?

I am working on a 1975 eldo now and have just taken the tank out for fitting it to holly sniper EFI with in tank pump.    the OEM sender has 3 lines.  I also have a 74 RWD tank

Did the Sniper come with an in tank pump, or did you need to
develop your own?  Picture?  Bruce Roe

V63, my non EFI has three lines according to the picture at Caddydaddy.  It arrives tomorrow.  Unfortunately I am at a huge disadvantage because I am having back and neck problems.  I found a ASE mechanic that specializes in classics so I will be on the sidelines learning since all this is new to me.

I am tempted to just buy the tank for a 78 Toranado and try and see but I don't want to just buy something that big because the cost of returning wouldn't be worth it.

I am so thankful to everyone on this site that is providing their expertise.  :)

V63's post looks to have got cut off.   I was hoping he would confirm or deny of there were vent fittings on the tank itself.
