The passenger outside mirror from my '72 coupe has an annoying wobbling when the car is driving. Can the glass be disengaged from the chromed casing and how: by pulling?
Has one of you solved this minor issue?
Fortunately the LH mirror is stable; it should be possible to have the same on the passenger side, but I don't know how to proceed.

Thanks for the video! However, my issue is a bit different: this is the glass which is wobbling. The mirror is manual remote. I don't believe that there were electric mirror for 1972!

Roger,
Frankly I don't remember how I did it, but the passenger side mirror on my '72 Eldo came loose and I was able to reach behind the glass and tighten it up. I think if you stretch the mirror past its normal travel you will see how.

Hi Roger,
I don't think that there's any difference between the left and right side mirrors as far as the construction goes, and I don't have any right hand ones in my inventory. However I do have a left, so here's a few pictures of what you are looking at. This particular mirror is from a 69 or 72, I can't remember now.
But if you tip the glass upward then you can see a screw that holds the tilt head in place. Hopefully this is just loose on yours and can just be tightened. If it is tight now, then the issue would probably be the tilt head and the cables. I'm not sure if those can be repaired or reattached if they come loose. Here's a few pictures of my mirror showing the screw, and then with the head pulled out to see the back side of the glass where the cables are attached.
Hope this helps some. Good luck with your repair.

Thanks Greg and Rick for the comments and pictures. I supposed that it was possible to take the glass out like more recent mirrors but it seems that it's not the case. Could be that that screw is loose; I will check it next week and report.

If it is the glass wobbling in the housing, there was a Cadillac service bulletin around 74-75 that I referred to correct the mirror on my 76. Remove the glass/cable and rotate once or twice to increase the glass tension.

So that's how it's done. Thanks for the information. I've just lived with the problem on some other cars, but now I know what I have to do.

Many thanks for that bulletin! I'm wondering if I can have the work done under the warranty? Anyway, with .2 hour, it seems that the job is quickly done!

Thanks to Frank and Rick. I did the repair as indicated in the bulletin; as I don't have yet the license plates (a Swiss specialty, you can give them back to the authorities), I did not drive to see if it's effective. I hope so; anyway, it's more difficult now to adjust the mirror.
The way to remove the glass is like on the pictures from Rick. The smaller the screwdriver, the better.

Yesterday and today I did some test drive with the '72 de Ville. There is still a slight wobble at the mirror, but absolutely acceptable. Thanks for the help, that bulletin was effectively useful!
