Afternoon everyone.  Been trying to adjust the Carter carb on the Cadillac as it will not Idle when put into gear.  It acts like a vacuum leak so we did a smoke test through the system to see any leaks.  Found the smoke coming through two small holes just below both idle adjustment screws at the front of the carb base. Looking at pictures on line it appears there should be two rivet looking plugs in these two small holes.  Any ideas why these would have been removed?  Obviously if air is flowing out these holes its probably sucking it in.  Should these holes be plugged back up?

Thanks

Daryl Chesterman

Could you post clear photos of what you are referring to?  Has someone recently rebuilt the carburetor?

Those 2 holes are plugged. They were from drilling the passages.  Get a plug or JB weld it up.
