I'm doing some underhood detailing on my '61 coupe and want to refinish the crusty looking hood springs. No appreciable rust, but the surface is rough and covered in long ago attempts to spray over with black and silver.  Probably need to media blast them, but what would be the correct paint or finish to apply afterwards.  Various online pics show silver, black, a kind of dark steel gray and even cadmium.

And by springs of course I mean hinges as well.
