I'm hoping that a fellow owner of a '41 convertible coupe or someone with knowledge on this topic can advise me.
The diagram in the parts list showing convertible coupe top layout (vacuum power top) appears to show a length of loop chain which becomes a spring going from the corner of the header rail to a bracket on the top mechanism to the rear above the door (see attached picture).

This item is not numbered or identified on the diagram or in the parts list and my car does not have it installed.

The parts list I am using goes up to '52 so may just not have this 'old' detail included.
Be really helpful if someone could take a look at their '41 convertible coupe and see if it has one fitted, its absence on mine may explain a small concern I have.

It a spring all the way I believe.  Attached are some pictures to get the discussion started.  The spring is covered with material to hide it.

Thank you for the reply Brad and taking the time to make pictures for me, my car does have those springs fitted, the one I'm referring to is (on the parts list diagram) directly above the door and runs between (or close to) item numbers 36.4210 and 36.4070. Mine does not have them, does yours have them?

Now I see what you were asking.  No does not exist on my top.  Looking at the parts diagram it doesn't even seem to have a (N L) arrow pointing to it.  The pictures were from various source when researching for making my top.  The 40 top is almost identical to the 41.

No loop chain/spring on my '41.  My car was restored 30 years ago (by a PO) so it could have been omitted during the restoration, but I cannot see any provisions for it.
