After around 5 years or so, the A/C system was beginning to show signs of needing a recharge, ie: short  cycling durations, air not blowing cold as it should etc. But before we got around to that, the compressor leaked substantial amounts of mineral oil or all of it. The leak definitely came from the rear of the compressor. The compressor wasn't making any noises prior but I obviously never turned it on again after this.

Does anyone know whether the A6 compressor with this kind of leak is repairable before buying another? I'd much rather keep the original compressor (with original markings & decals) if at all possible.

Could problem be at the O ring with the super heat switch or plug? 🤔

I get new ones from four seasons on Amazon and get the proper decals for them.
So far they are holding up.

Eric,

I don't know if it's still available, but I used to get a seal kit from the AC Delco distributor for the A6. It was just the 2 big O rings on each end of the housing, or case, but it makes a rebuild much easier when you have them.
I'll look to see if I still have a bag with the part number on it and let you know if I do.

Find the leak first. The most common sources of leaks are the suction/discharge port o rings or as someone suggested either the superheat switch or it's o ring.

If one of the Alternative refrigerants was used all bets are off as far as o ring compatible

Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen. Are special tools required to replace the O rings?

Will this kit work?

That's it Eric. FSM shows disassembly and correct re-assembly stages.  I've resealed a few of them and the full task should take somewhere less than an hour.

Big secret is to pull the oil pick up tube out before you try and take the shell apart and remember to re install it with a new o-ring after the shell has gone back together.
