Hi, I've got a '60 Coupe Deville, and I've got a replacement for my dinged fin trim.  My question is, how do I remove it?  I've got the '59 manual and the '60 supplement, but all it says is to use a straight edge/flat blade to remove it (can't remember the exact phrase and I'm at work without my manual, but that is the jist of it).  I'm assuming they mean to just put a flat blade screwdriver under the trim and just start prying it off, which I can see a couple paint chips where it appears this was attempted before, but I can't believe that is the actual correct way to do it as I imagine you'd ruin the original trim.  Do I remove the upper taillight housing and slide the trim off the back of the fin that way?  Any help is appreciated!

I can speak for 61. You want a nylon trim pry bar. They do pop off for 61 except for the front location that has a bolt going into the body. For 61 you access that location from inside the trunk after removing the side board.

The fin trim does indeed pop off.
You have to very carefully pry upwards starting at the rear.
Those sets of plastic trim removal tools can be had inexpensively at most auto parts stores. You can also use a flat putty knife and a rag to protect the paint and pry with another tool against the putty knife.

I had to do this when I wanted to replace the die cast fin tips on my 60 with a newly rechromed set.

It might help if you knew what the clip holding it looks like.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the help. I've been dreading and avoiding the job, especially after taking it to 5 different body shops to see if they'd like to give it a try, all of them saying "no". I was done with the swap in 5 minutes last night :) .
