Hello everyone. I would like to know the purpose of a cork gasket for my '37 LaSalle transmission. In a MPL of March 25, 1942 is a description for a cork gasket page # 578. The gasket goes between the front bearing and the throwout bearing sleeve PN 20.0362... Could that cork gasket be to prevent transmission fluid from leaking or to keep throwout bearing tight against the bellhousing ? Anybody ever replace this gasket ? what size is the gasket ? Thanks for any help... John C. Lehman... CLC # 26365...

It is to try and keep trans from leaking down input shaft. I carefully cut a new one out of cork and put it in.
