Not entirely sure if it is considered a shim and wedge, but my driver door shim/wedge was missing, so off I went searching for a replacement. I did find a set made of brass. On my passenger door the wedge is plastic, which made me wonder if I have the "correct" part for this car. The brass one is exactly the same as the plastic one. Which one is correct? If it is supposed to be plastic, where would I fond one? Pic tells the story.

On mine the part on the drivers side is the same (plastic) like on the passengers side.

The more common problem ot that the striker post has a plastic bushing that breaks and falls off.
When they are missing the door rattles around when it's closed. Take a look at that too.

Brian is correct.  What causes your door to make
noise when going over a bump, for example, is
that the plastic "ring" on the striker has deteriorated
and broken off.  I had that happen to me on my '73.

Replacements are available from OPGI and others:

Note the circular plastic ring.  If yours is missing
that's your problem.

I did order the strikers, as mine were worn. Better now. I have the rubber bumpers on order, and will get those done Friday. I ended up going with the brass wedge, seems better than plastic, and once painted black it is indistinguishable from the plastic.
Slow steady progress, plan to go to my first car show Saturday morning!
