On a 57 Eldorado, a single 4 barrel car: what color should the engine be painted? what color should the valve covers and air cleaner be painted?

Thank You
Bob

Cadillac Jack 82

The engine should be Cadillac Dark Blue which was used from the 40s until the late 70s.  As far as the air cleaner is concerned it should be semi-gloss black unless its the dual 4-barrel carb setup.

Except there still is not an Authenticity Manual for the 1959 cars—one of the more popular models!!! :-\

Valve covers and air cleaner are gold on 1957 Eldorado engine regardless of whether equipped with single or dual four bbl carb.

Daryl -- some people will have to volunteer to write
one! The manuals do not magically appear. All it takes
is for a group of "like minded" folks who own 59's to
get it started.  There are plenty of them the Club but
somebody has to take the initiative to to start the ball
rolling.  Why not you?

I was on the committee that put the manual for Class
15 together in 1997.  We all learned quite a bit.

Robert - below is the link to a VERY LONG thread on the subject of gold air cleaners for 1957 Eldorados . It started off as a thread about "frame marks" and somehow turned to a discussion about gold air cleaners  near the end of page one . A good read . There are many pictures of 1 x 4 carb engines with gold air cleaners and valve covers . I speak from personal experience regarding your question . Some of the pictures are of my 1 x 4 carb 57 Biarritz engine that I firmly believe came with a gold air cleaner & valve covers . Good luck . Post pictures of your progress . .....
