Here's some pics of my son in his Cadillac uniform :)  He went to college for automotive tech, and worked for a Chevy dealer over last year after college, and now joined Cadillac around a month ago.  They recruited him though word of mouth as he is a good tech.   Alex has been working on cars since around 5, and is already an AACA Master judge, and is knowledgeable on 65-66 Cadillacs. He drives a '65 Eldorado (pic below at a cruise night), and brought it to work and his co-workers were like WHAT!  ;D  Proud of him!

I can tell you are very proud of your son. Congratulations on him being a successful young mechanic. He is on a great career track starting out at a dealership.

My son in law is on a similar track, he went to college in a great automotive  program and after working in a couple of garages wound up as a tech at a GMC dealership.

I think your son, involved with older cars has a similar perspective as my guy, that will pay off in the long run.

You need to be have old school skills in order to work on newer vehicles. The computer and check engine codes only tell part of the story sometimes and you need to be able to troubleshoot using the basics, otherwise the computer can take you down the rosy path.

A young mechanic with the ability to troubleshoot will be more successful and happier than a parts changer.

Thank you all for the nice comments!   Was fun working with son Alex tonight as he helping assemble and install a '66 Caddy bumper on our show car.  Will post more pics tomorrow in the restoration forum. Thanks, Chuck.

Chuck,

You should be very proud of your son.  Congratulations to Alex for choosing the path that will bring him much success in his chosen profession. I recently retired from 32 years teaching young men and women in a very good automotive program at Salt Lake Community College.  My former students who showed the professionalism and passion I suspect your son displays are very well paid, highly valued employees, and extremely happy with their careers.  Thumbs up to you both.
