Nice. Someone tried to blow the muffler off.  :(

I'm sure the price on that one will peak out!

The Tassie Devil(le)

It had a misfire, filled the exhaust with unburnt petrol, and when the spark came back, boom.   The Muffler expanded as that was the weakest part of the system.

Also happens when some devious driver, whilst driving, turns the ignition off, momentarily, then back on, and voila, BOOM.   Mostly happens with a manual transmission vehicle with a Carburettor as the engine is still being turned by the drive shaft/transmission, allowing the fuel to still be drawn down into the exhaust system.

With a fuel injected car, when the driver turns the ignition off, it also turns off the Injector Pump, so there is little chance to fill the exhaust with unburnt fuel, plus, with an Automatic Transmission, without a rear pump, the engine will stop, requiring the starter motor to be re-engaged.   Thereby, defeating the chance for the intended noise.

Once had that happen when the (+) battery cable shorted while driving on the highway. Brand new muffler was blown apart as if ripped by a tin opener. The car also happened to be a '74 sedan.

Leather wrapping added to steering wheel to hide the delaminated wood insert. Center hubs were painted white isn't correct. Supposed to be brushed stainless steel.
