Hello Folks,

Can someone identify where the transmission dipstick bracket mounts, my bracket is broken and is held up by a couple of ground straps (also not connected!).  I'd  like to attempt to fix it as I believe it should not flop around like it does.  Also, any idea what the two ground straps are "grounding"?  It's not obvious to me.  One strap is about an 1" wide and the other is about 1/4" wide.

All TH400 dipsticks I have seen, have a bracket held under a trans
to engine bolt.  Do get the alignment right, to avoid a leak at the O
ring into the trans.  Late 70s did not use an O ring, that rubber
funnel less likely to leak.

Most 65 up TH400 BOP dipsticks would work, brand C has a different
bolt position.  The height might vary with the original app.  There are
some flexible ones, have not tried them.

A really heavy ground straps usually run from the engine block to
the battery, important for starter operation.  A smaller strap might
be used to connect the body, to alternator and loads like lights.

If you rotate the dipstick tube 180 degrees, that is, towards the front, you should see which bellhousing bolt it belongs under.

If you are extremely lucky, you might even see the other half on the hole under the head of the bolt.

I think Bruce Reynolds has it, if you can identify just how it was
originally bolted, a repair could be bolted or Mig welded on to
the end of that bracket.

It bolts to the first header bolt on a bracket with a bend.   Most times broken off at bolt hole, so either find one that is good, or weld a new bracket to exiting dipstick.  It was originally held on my a spot weld, so would be easy to reproduce.  Chuck

On the ground straps. You should have one that runs from the engine to the frame and one the runs from the engine to the body. This grounds everything so the electrical systems works
       Thanks Wayne

Thank you all!  I will check that bolt for the other half of the bracket.  Reattaching the ground straps may solve other issues too.

Sure, and ground straps reproduced by Lectric limited.  May not be misted on the site, but they sell
