Who knows the history of this 1931 Cadillac 370A Town Sedan
« on: November 15, 2021, 12:31:42 PM »

I bought this very nice Cadillac 370A from a collector in Tyler/Texas. Unfortunately the seller does not know the history of the vehicle.

The engine# is 1000858.

Who knows this vehicle and can tell me something about the history. Where was the car restored.

I am glad about every hint. Thanks in advance.

They don't come much more beautiful than that.  :)

Judging by your signature line, you have some pretty rare and unusual cars. A couple that I have never even heard of.
Current:
1976 Eldorado Convertible in Crystal Blue FireMist with white interior and top.
1969 Fleetwood Brougham in Chalice Gold FireMist with matching interior and top.

Past and much missed:

1976 Eldorado Convertible
1972 Fleetwood Brougham
1971 Sedan de Ville
1970 de Ville Convertible
1969 Sedan de Ville

That is indeed a beautiful car.  I do not recall ever seeing it on any of our Texas region tours/events.

I notice that the license plates do not appear to be Texas plates - if you know the state of the license plates where it was last licensed, it might help someone remember seeing the car and lead to some additional information.   Also, on the title that you received (if it is a Texas title) it should list the previous owner name - that might provide a lead.

Good luck - would love to know what you find out.

Clemens,
Before I comment more, I have questions.
#1 Did you buy it from a collector or a dealer??
#2 How long did the seller own it??
#3 Did he do any restoration work on the car??

Reconstructing a car's history from this distance in time is tricky and requires some luck.

Even if your seller doesn't know the car's history, if he can tell you from whom he acquired it, you may be able to start with that person (or even the person's family if the person is no longer around).  If you identify someone you can talk to, they might be able to point you to someone else, and so on.

Where was your car last titled?  Some states actually keep old title records and some will even share information with the current owner of the car.

Are there any clues in the car itself (correspondence under the seat or in a map pocket, old registrations, etc.)?

Good luck.  You have a beautiful car.

Chris

Searching infos about my 1931 Cadillac 370A
« Reply #9 on: November 21, 2021, 01:53:28 PM »
I am still looking for the history of my 1931 Cadillac 370A Town Sedan. The car was purchased by me in August from a  classic car collector in Tyler/Texas and is now in Germany.
The rare car has the engine number 1000858 and according to the title it was first in Helena/Montana before it moved with its owner to Tyler in Texas.
Actually, someone should know the rare car, it has been very extensively restored. The car is in concour condition. Unfortunately, I cannot get any information from the previous owner about the history of my vehicle. I would like to keep the car for the long term, so I would appreciate any information.
Where and when was the car restored?
Who knows the previous owners?
Who has seen the vehicle before?
I am grateful for any information gladly also by PM or clheddier@heddier.com
Thanks in advance

Several people responded in your previous post, including me. You didn't answer. I suggest you cancel the newest post & concentrate on the older one. Over posting on this board is not a good idea.

Sorry for answering lately. I was on an exhibition and did not see your message.

1: I bought the car from a private collector in Tyler (I do not want to make his name public)
2: He told me 5 years, but that is not true.
3: He told me that he knows nothing about the history. That is my problem.

If you habe any information please contact me again. Thanks for your efforts.

3: He told me that he knows nothing about the history.

Some people have a very short memory...I cannot believe that the collector don't know from whom he bought the car.
There was recently a story here about a car which disappear from a now deceased member (don't remember his name for the moment). Is that the same car?

Roger

If you are referring to Carl fielding’s car this is not it. It was a 1927. The one that he had at the las Vegas GN and left it with somebody and his brother was trying to find.
I got myself a Cadillac but I can't afford the gasoline (AC/DC Down Payment Blues)

Hi Clemens,
Here a some answers. Be advised that these are only my opinions!!
#1 I don't need to know the seller.
#2 He doesn't want to share any previous  information as he bought the car to resell.
He's afraid you may discover  what he paid for it & possible other negative information.
$3 To me, I would say the car was restored many years ago & any tracing may be impossible at this time.
#4 Does the car look like an older restoration? Paint, chrome & especially the tires.

Meanwhile I found this picture of my 1931 Cadillac on the internet. The vehicle had the Washington license plate AHG7197. At this time it was probably already in Texas. There was also another Cadillac 370A Roadster with the license plate AHG7198. Can anyone tell me anything about the history of my vehicle.
