Should change the rear oil seal on the engine, my question is can you remove the oil pan without having to lift the engine? It is a cadillac de ville rwd 1976

Yes, just pull the exhaust crossover, and lower the drag link. The procedure is fully described in the FSM

ok thanks, I have already done that but how do you get the oil pan down because it takes in both the front beam and the flywheel at the rear, or should you take it down in some special direction?

Don't forget to remove the dipstick.
But, by following the Factory Shop Manual (FSM), you shouldn't have any problems.

With the pan down, be sure to remove all the nylon timing gear teeth chunks from the bottom of the pan and clean the pick up screen of debris
