Thanks. I found a mate just near who has a puller but will have to wait till Sat. I was mistaken that i had this week off . Got the call at 9am "Where are you?" Damn.

Well, I was advised to just bolt on a wheel and "tap" it many times around the edge gently. All four of mine did come free but don't over impact the wheel edge so as not to warp it.

I have always loosened the nut just enough to see a gap between the drum and the nut.  There seems to be less bang doing it that way. Loosen it more and it seems to gain velocity and make a bigger bang?

So why didn't they make it so the drum would just slide over the wheel studs?   Seems like for how often you had to service brakes in that era it would have been a lot easier.

here is a photo of the tools I use for my 46 & 47 Cads rear drums. A 5 leg, rotating axle puller and a high-power impact wrench (for trucks). all the drums always pop-out at the first try with this.
