Looks like a nice project, hood ornaments are not correct, however.

Thank you for the picture of the starter.  That gives me an idea of where to start
Hoping I can find something that will fit.   Checked EBay and some other places
Nothing so far

According to the shop manual, the Delco Remy type number for a 1937 LaSalle starter motor is 727-V.

The shop manual is available for download at gmheritagecenter dot com.

Best regards,

According to my 1935-55 Parts List, the starter used in 1937 Lasalles, part number 185 9883, was also used in all 1936, 37 and 38 Cadillacs and LaSalles.

Besides the interchange that Jay mentioned the critical parts interchange of armature and field coils goes much further.  Armature goes from 36 to 49 and field coils go from 34 to 52.  The starter up to 40 will go if you change the pinion.  The pitch of the pinion gear changed from 38 to 39 except for the 39 V-16.  The only way to find this obscure piece of information is the hard way.  I think also if you change the pinion and the nose piece (official name Housing with bushing, starter clutch) probably all the starters up to 48 will work and most likely even without changing the nose piece.  It just changes the orientation of the solenoid.  So bottom line if you have any starter at all you can fix it with parts from many years and if you have nothing you can make most any starter fit.  New starter clutches with pinion for 38 and back are on eBay all of the time.

There's one on ebay right now I just saw:
Item 224774629503
$650 plus shipping

Seller says it has the 41+ solenoid on it, so it's probably not the 37-39 version

1937 Series 6019

Checking on the one on eBay now
Thank you guys for all your help !!!!
Excited to get it started and running to see if it may need any major repairs
