I have posted a new discussion to our 6364 Cadillac Website that will kickstart an ongoing series of investigative topics that will appear in future Chapter newsletters.  First up is a look at the 64 Eldo Promo Picture I had posted in this past month's Newsletter.

If  you know anything about this car or would like to join the discussion, here is the link:

I guess I was optimistic that someone would have some info on this "prototype?". I have see various variations of the 64 Eldo, that I assume are prototypes, with these type wheels and double whitewalls, but no real historical info on the car(s). The wheels are intriguing, if nothing else because they appear to be the wheels used on the equally, if not more mysterious Florentine that supposedly made an appearance at the 1964 Worlds Fair.

These and other pictures, look like a real full size car. Maybe it was just a full sized mockup, maybe it was a complete car with engine, etc. Dunno? If anyone has some historical info on this car, those wheels, etc, give me a shout at jasonedge@nc.rr.com.
Here is a picture of the Florentine with the similar wheels.

Jason,

I searched a rather extensive reference library of Cadillac factory photos and books and haven't found another pic of this car. I agree with you that it appears to be a full size not scale model vehicle. I suspect this is a working idea draft or work in progress. The picture is not the usual glamour shot Cadillac did of finished designs like the Florentine. ......I hope we get more information from others.

Look closely at the wheels in the inset picture of this 1964 magazine ad. I wondered if wire wheels were being considered.

Eric, I have always wondered the same thing. This wheel sure showed up a few times. The funny thing about the 1964 ad "WHEN YOU FIRST TAKE THE WHEEL...", is there were a couple of versions of it, the one you posted, and one where the gold Eldo front clip is centered and the portion showing the wheel (or at least enough to discern it is different) is not seen. See attachment. My guess it was considered but was nixed, and just got by the editors on this ad.  Just pure speculation, but not  knowing the timing of the versions of these ads, one might wonder if the ad was purposefully changed to move the car to the center and lop off the part showing the wheel. That might be a good guess, having not seen the majority of the other ads for this model year, but most do have the picture squared and centered at the bottom.

Jason...I noticed the same thing when I was trying to find this ad online but couldn't. The item I posted was from my own personal stash of magazine ads I had harvested from various magazines decades ago. All the others were the version you posted.
