Hi men and women, I need the firing order for the V16 from the 30s if someone out there has it. Thanks Dan

OhDanny-Boy:  -the pre-38 narrow/ohv-452cid/V16s Fired: "1-8-14-3-6-11-2-15-10-7-4-13-12-5-16" (Wired: "1-10-9-4-3-12-11-16-15-8-7-14-13-6-5-2") -odd nos.Lt.-bank/even nos.Rt.-bank ;  ---but 38 & later pancake/flathead-431cid/V16s Fired: "1-4-9-12-3-16-11-8-15-14-7-6-13-2-5-10" (Wired: Rt.bank- "1-9-3-11-15-7-13-5 & Lt.bank- 2-10-4-12-16-8--14-6")  -but conversely, odd nos.Rt.-bank/even nos.Lt.-bank;  -and looking down on the 38-40 Distributors, the Pass.side rotates-CCW, while the Driv.side rotates-CW (only the left/Driv.-side Distrib. has an 8-lobe breaker-cam w/dual-points each activating its own coil).... hope that helps!   ~Bob vH

Bob, I guess this experience unfortunately proves one of the life lessons I got on email recently: "You wouldnt worry so much about what people think of you if you only knew how seldom they did". I found it interesting (why did the engineers come up with such odd firing orders?). Thanks for going to the trouble to get information that Im sure others appreciate, too.

Bob,  Im one of the folks who appreciated your research and sharing of the information.  Ive always been fascinated by the 16s, even though Ive never ridden in or owned one.

Rusty, I think I recall reading in Maurice Hendrys book about how the firing order was tweaked and experimented with to minimize vibration and twisting of the crankshaft.  Ill have to go back and check to be sure.
