Had a similar problem, I changed my thermostat this weekend; it appears that when the mechanic changed thermostat, he fail to properly align it, i.e., the instructions state, “Copper point coil should face engine”.  This was not the case.  My car is running smoother without the chugging and I have noticed increased horsepower (LOL).  Seriously, the car is running better.
