Jim,

I had Lares rebuild the steering box for my
39 lasalle last winter and Im very happy
with their work. I beleave their turn around
time was about 6 weeks at that time. I had
mine sandblasted then epoxy primed it before
I shiped it.

Good Luck

All, Iam considering having a new EXCENTRIC(sic) ADJUSTER made for the steering box for my 38 La Salle.( Instead of a new PITMAN GEAR/SHAFT. Does anyone have throughs on having that done? OR has anyone done that? Can the OFF-SET be made to shift the PITMAN GEAR more to reduce the PLAY in the box?
The problem I have with sending it to be rebuilt is its size.
The steering shaft does not come off of the steering box, consiquently, it would be a BIG box, about 8X8X5 or 6.
Good Luck, Jim

Jim,

I would just have the steering box rebuilt.I made a wood
box for mine and shipped it UPS with no problem. Lares did
not use my box for returning it. They use a heavy weight
cardboard box and foam in place the rebuilt unit for return
shipping. My box tought about 4 -5 weeks  from the time I shipped
it untill I got it back.
Im very happy with their work and should have had it rebuilt
sooner. I tryed adjusting the play out of it and it did help
soom what but it was still sloppy and leaked.

Good Luck

They did a good job on my 57s steering box and pump. Id use them again. It took a little longer than 6 weeks even though I hand delivered and picked up.
