Because Im too cheap to actually spring for genuine OEM fender skirts for my 42 series 75 (takes the same skirt as a 41), I purchased a set of steel reproduction skirts.  For the life of me, I cant figure out how they secure to the car.

Here are two photos to help diagnose the problem:

They hook on at the front and rear like OEM skirts, but they have a different latch than the real ones.  There is a single metal rod as you can see in the photo.  With the skirt on the car, it appears you push the piece of the rod that hangs below the skirt in toward the wheel to snug the top of the skirt to the fender.  My issue is there doesnt seem to be anything to lock it in place.

Does anyone else have a similar skirt, or know someone who does, that can tell me how these things work?

Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Gday Jeff,

By any chance, does the vertical wire just push up behind the top of the fender to wedge it into place, and then the handle just sits up on top of the bottom lip of the skirt so it cant fall down?

Jeff, Ill try to remember to go out tomorrow after church and see how mine fit. I got them from Agape in Evansville, IN. and they seem to fit well. Of course, I havent had them on for real yet. I think they will go on well enough once you figure it out. Best, Barry.

Jeff, that type of skirt fastener (rod on left side of photo #2) SPRINGS inwards and hooks on the bottom edge of the skirt. Its hard to discribe the action you must take. Should have been installation instructions with the skirts.
Good Luck, U will figure it out, Jim

Gents,

With your hints, I think Ive figured it out.  I had the bottom portion of the rod that sticks out below the skirt pointed in the wrong direction.  Once I turned it 180 degrees, everything worked as you all stated.  It does lock in place along the inside bottom edge of the skirt.

It threw me at first because the rod didnt want to rotate past about 90 degrees.  Turns out it was paint build up that was holding it back.

Once I get the weatherstrip on and the emblem in place (hopefully next weekend), Ill post a photo of the finsihed product.

Thanks again!
Jeff
