Synthetic gear oil use in 1947 rear end

I am looking for advice on the best option for gear oil in my 1947 rear end. Has anyone used the new synthetics in their rear ends. It seems new and improved is not always compatible with restorations. Are there any problems using the synthetics in the differential? I have also rebuilt the brake systme and plan to go with DOT5 brake fluid I used stainless steel for my brake lines.

 Synthetics are becoming more commonly used in differentials these days. It is the factory fill for most all of the pick ups. They do offer benefits of extended change intevals and greater resistance to breakdown due to heat. But, they do not offer any added protection against sludguing caused from oxidation or contamination from moisture.

 They are offered in the differentials and transmissions of HD trucks. This allows the manufacturer to offer a 500,000 mile warrnty on the parts, so it does have benefits.

 But, you want to make sure it is compatible with the seals in the rear axle. If all is new and made from the latest neoprene and silicon rubbers, you should be fine.
