I was reattaching the speedometer cable to the speedo assembly on the transmission because it was leaking.  Im wondering if there is supposed to be a gasket or sealant at the end of the speedo cable?  Does anyone have the 1962 parts book to show it or just know this?  thanks.

Gday Greg,

There are O rings that do the task of sealing.

When you remove the speedo driven gear assembly from the side of the transmission housing, there will be an O ring around the centre shaft which is supposed to stop the flow of fluid up the speedo cable.

There is also an O ring around the whole unit.

When re-assembling, use Vaseline as a lubricant for the O rings when pushing the parts together.
