The back side of the drivers seat back on my 68 Eldorado has a piece of hard plastic that forms a shell.  The original white paint is now separating from the plastic.  The passenger seat is fine.  What companies make the correct spray paint for restoring the plastic pieces of auto interiors?  Thanks.

Hi,

I highly recommend Tower Paint out of Wisconsin.  They will mix any color of any paint and even put it in a spray can for you!

Their link is http://www.towerpaint.com/ TARGET=_blank>http://www.towerpaint.com/  Ive used them numorous times for assorted projects on my car in and out.  Even had them custom match engine paint for me!  They are very friendly to deal with.

Tower can look up the color for you, but Ive found that using the charts online at AutoColorLibrary first rather than to have Tower look it up.  I get the number there and then call Tower with the match.  It also helps to send a small part or sample too just insure the color match is correct from age, change of formulas, etc. Tower does return the sample back too.

Just make sure the part youre spraying is fully cleaned and degreased, etc.  ESPECIALLY with interior parts otherwise the peeling will begin again sooner than later!  Found that out too!  I use a 3M solvent I purchased at a local shop for that.

Good Luck!

Dave

Jim,

I used SEM brand products for my 66 CDV hard plastic armrests, they were factory color cast though, not painted. Sounds to me like you will have to strip the part if the finish is peeling, use caution on plastic. SEM has an adhesion promoter too, numerous stock colors available in rattle cans (the color chart is very accurate, I have one) or you can get it custom mixed. Any paint job shop might carry it, if you get into a custom  mixed factory color different brand you will need a spray gun.

I used Colorplus brand products for my leather and vinyl.
