theres a 56 eldo on ebay, and the guy asks you send him an email.  For those of you who might recall, its a gray job with red leather interior and a horn button on the steering column.  Heres the reply:

Hello there and thanks for your interest.
Firstly, I want you to know that I ended my auction early because of a
buyer who assured me that he will purchase, but just bailed on me in
the last minute. The price that I want to obtain is $8,000  (includeing
shipping and insurance charges). Im requesting a US $4,000 REFUNDABLE
deposit prior to transporting the car to your location and the remaining
balance to be paid upon delivery, inspection and approval of vehicle.
The car is like new, everything is in perfect working order, low miles.
1956 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible model. It has always been
garage kept and adult driven, never abused or raced . It is a US model
in compliance with US emissions, clear title in hand, still registered
in USA and you will have no problem registering it onto your name. The
car will be shipped via air freight from Zagreb, Croatia and it will
take no more than 7 business days to arrive at your location.
This is a large purchase and I would suggest using a third party to
complete this purchase as I want a smooth and safe transaction. We will
use Escrow Europa, I have completed quite a large number of successful
deals using them. I have a Purchase Protection Account of US $20,000 and
I assume you know what this means.
If you agree with these terms, please reply with your full name and
address and I will consign the transaction at eBay asap.

Regards,

and thats how it ends.  Buyer beware< I guess. . .

Is there any state in the US where a 1956 model vehicle would have to have emission controls and pass an emissions test?

thats a good one.  but if the car was ever re-sold in southern california, it would have to be fitted with a pcv of sorts.  Usually what you see on these cars is a hose from the crankcase breather to the air cleaner.
