Any ideas where the trouble may be on this...1956  6 way seat; motor works fine, switch is good, but it appears some of the solenoids (3 of them) dont seem to be working right. When control is used, I get a clicking sound from the solenoid, jack screw turns freely, but solenoid doesnt seem to engage, thus not moving the seat properly.  Is it possible the coil isnt creating the correct force anymore? Does the steel ball commonly wear down?  Id appreciate any advise on how to approach this.

 Thanks, Mike

Mike,
open up your gearbox and you will find that if it has its original grease it will have turned to cheese. Give it a good clean out and re-grease with some LIGHT grease, and youll probably find it will be happy again.
You may have to help the mechanism into life by moving the solenoid plungers by hand until they are nice and loose.

White lithium grease is very stable over time. I use it on old record players.
