Could someone tell me how to check the oil on a 1949 Cadillac automatic transmission. I just bought one and dont know how. Thanks so much.

passenger side front carpet, peal it back towards the seat cushion. Everything will be exposed at that point.

Hi does the engine have to be running or can you check it cold?
Chrome is my favorite color!

Check the oil while the engine has been running and hot. Check the fluid in neutral. If you have the shop manual it tells you to check it in drive. That's a mistake.
Under the carpeting, is a metal disk about 3 inches in diameter. It has to be popped out to get to the little transmission dip stick.
