1941 master cylinder

I am about to install a kit in the master cylinder  except their is a rubber washer that looks like a garden hose washer in the kit.Their wasnt one in the cylinder, is this an extra part in the kit that i dont need.

Greg- That washer serves as a seat for the valve on the end of the spring, especially on the newer-style valve in my Wagner catalog. If the forward end plug in your MC has a sort of lip on the interior face, this rubber gasket will stretch to fit over it. I have seen small and large seats in the same gasket kit. Presumably, your MC doesnt need the large one.
