Greg the fan blade should be the same color as the alternator housing, which is grey/silver.  I have a NOS (not rebuilt) alternator and this is the case in terms of color.  Usually the rebuilt alternators fan blades are brass colored.

Thats interesting George!  So the original alternator that came in the car from the factory had grey/silver blades but the rebuilt ones have brass colored (cadmium plated?) blades?  Okay Cadillac judges, which alternator (NOS or rebuilt) will pass muster at the Cadillac Nationals?

Thanks!

Greg

the "silver" color is bare cadmium plate. If they have a brass-like color, probably the blades were replated, with dichromate dip. You shouldnt lose points for something like that, but you have to remember that judging is more political than honest.

You might want to clear coat new or rebuilt blades to help keep them looking new. Try that one on the judges! Id dare them to know the difference.
