have a 37 caddy 60 series V8 model.the tranny oil is leaking out of the shifter base?. have had car idling and noticed a leak, looked and found it is coming out of the top of the tranny where the shifter goes into the transmission.this seems unusual as no one else can tell me what is going on,think maybe a gear was installed wrong?.dont know the service history of this tranny.car drives fine and shifts OK.oil level is not to high filled to bottom of plug hole with 80-90 oil.leak is not massive but this oil is messy. any help is appreciated.vent hole has been checked and was not plugged or dirty.  thanks Harvey Bowness

Harvey,

I've had this problem when I used a specific after market 80/90 weight oil. Seems this oil climbs the walls of the transmission to lub everything, then it leaks in spots that were not supposed to get oiled.

If you used regular old transmission oil this is probably not the problem, if you used some of the stuff hyped today it might be.

I can give you specific if needed, but not on the forum.
