40 Lasalle Gear Shift Removal

After removing horn and steering wheel, Icannot figure out how to take off the Gear shifter so that , i can remove the hub for painting. Any help??

Bob, I removed the hub on my '38 La Salle.(It looks the same as the "38 in the LA SALLE, Cadillac's companion car book) It was held on by three or four screws on the inside. I can not remenber if I had to remove the "Shift-lever" or not. And there is a clamping devise on the bottom side of the hub that you have to loosen. look at it closely, you will see that it is simplely made.
