where to send wiring harness for rebuild?

Hey folks,

does anyone know where to send a main wiring harness out to be 'rebuilt'? I would imagine that someone could re-wire it with the factory connectors and add correct color-coded wire? I know lectric limited does this for Corvettes but I don't know who would take and do a good job on a '71 Caddy harness.

Thanks,

Brett

There are several good places that will sell you a new harness that's made to
original specs.  I'm not aware that anyone "rebuilds" old harnesses due to
all of the inherent problems (corroded wiring, terminals, etc) which due to
labor costs would make this a very expensive proposition.  And after all that
labor - you will have a "patched up" system that's bound to cause you
headaches.  I tried to rebuild my harness on my '55 Caddy and finally gave up
and spent the $1,500 for a completely new system (some years back -- prices
may have changed).

Try either "Rhode Island Wiring" or "Naragansette Reproductions" they both
advertise in Hemmings every month and have been doing this for 25 years or
more.  That's where I bought mine and no complaints.

The only problem you may run into is that I'm not sure if your car is "old"
enough -- not sure what years they go to.

Good luck,

Mike

yes I didn't say 'rebuild' to save money but I doubt my 71 main harness is in anyones database...the good thing, I suppose, is that the connectors are standard GM so someone who does this can, if I can find the right person, use my existing harness as a template and basically make a new one from it only reusing the fuse block or a connector or maybe it is all standard gm parts and they can just pattern a harness after it...

I will check, I would LOVE to order one ready to drop in..

Try YNZ'S Yesterdays Parts 909 798-1498 They are Outstanding. Did a complete harness for My Eldo Brougham and it was a work of art. G. Nolan. PS they have a Web site.
