Archie,
You may be able to still get EOS at your local dealerhip(s) from their current stock, but the best information is that GM is no longer offering it, once the dealership supply is gone that is all there will be.  It is reported to be still available to order in Canada.  GM Camshaft and Lifter Prelube is also still available and can be used just like EOS except it contains even more ZDDP than EOS and less can be used.

"Are you guys using it?  I have, but I wonder if it really is necessary."
Makes it sound like maybe you missed all of the talk about ZDDP here.  I most certainly use it and for the price and everything I have been able to read about the lack of ZDDP in today's oils it, I wouldn't NOT use it.  I can tell you that the guys at the Modified Chapter are concerned about this issue and use EOS or an equivalent.

If you haven't already, I would go to    http://www.zddplus.com/  ---
http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/flat_tappet_cam_tech/index.html
http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html
and read all that is there, as well as the article by Carl Steig that was posted on the CLC Home Page (the link is still there)  http://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/OldCarsNewOil.pdf

I was glad to find this on the internet.  I had heard that GM was not going to sell it.
I was at the local Farm store today.  I noticed that they had HD 30 Oil.  Now would that have zddp in it.
I was told that you could find oil at a farm store that had it.  Just wondering.
Kinda new to this oil crap.  This is my first really old car.  I don't want to screw it up.
O  Had to laugh.  It didn't take Goeff Long to do the search.  Between the two posting.  About 8 min.
Thanks Dave.
Just hope it works.

"Just hope it works."
:D  Certainly should!  The oil companies have been putting in their oils since the late 40's.  Make sure the HD 30 oil you buy at the Farm store is not rated SM or CJ.  All oils still have ZDDP as far as I know ---- the new ones just don't have ENOUGH.
If you are using an SM or CJ rated oil, 1/2 bottle of EOS per oil change should be plenty, 1/2 bottle of the GM Camshaft and Lifter Prelube should also be enough, even though it is a smaller bottle it has a higher concentration of ZDDP.

When I did my last oil change I checked with 5 local GM dealers, and they were all sold out on EOS.  Once they announced they were discontinuing it, I think people rushed out to stock up.

Sounds a bit like the rush for 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertibles.

Maybe someone will see the error in discontinuing the supplement, but then, they aren't in the game of keeping cars on the roads after the Warranty Period has expired.

Folks,
Refer to your Self Starter, November-December 2008 Issue.  On page 5, a Letter to the Editor regarding ZDDP and using STP (a product that has been around for 40+ years).  It seems that STP contaiins MORE than enuf Zinc and Phosphorus--like 4 times more--than SJ or SL graded oils.  This information is backed up by other studies.  Flat-tappet engine owners should just stock up on STP and add a can of it at each oil change.

I am using ZZDPlus in my 1947 Cadillac. I poured 2 bottles. 1 bottle is enough for 4-5 quarts of oil as written on the package. I use Castrol GTX 20W-50 or any other cheap 20W-50 oils since I change it every 500 miles or so. (no oil filter)
So far no problems..engine seems to run very smooth.

I also installed a Fumoto drain valve,  which works great for frequent changes
