Does anyone know if one can replace the gasket on the rear cover of a 68 THM 425 without removing the trans?  Mine has a slow leak, which at this point is easier to put a piece of cardboard under it and a quart of trans fluid in it every year or two.

Do you mean the 'square' tranmission cover under the transmission and Not the front 'oval' differential cover?

If the square then yes. Just make sure that you do not over torque the bolts as they will deform the metal and make the leak worse. When you remove this pan make sure all hoe openings are flat - not bent inwards or outwards from the rest of the pan - this is what causes leaks. Took me a couple of trys but my 72 does not leak a drop now.

I would guess by rear cover he means the one that covers the chain and stuff.
