Cadillac Sales through Q1 2020

Information taken from three different reports by Cadillac Society and one other industry-wide report.

  • Global Cadillac sales increased 2.3 percent during the 2019 calendar year, increasing from 381,859 units in 2018 to 390,458 units in 2019.
  • U.S. Cadillac sales increased 1 percent to 156,246 units during the complete 2019 calendar year in the United States. The results represent the first annual increase in sales volume that the luxury brand has experienced in the American market since 2013.  [ The overall non-seasonally-adjusted U.S. all-vehicle sales for the period fell 1.4% to 17.0 million units, versus 17.2 million units a year ago. ]
  • Cadillac sales in the United States decreased 15.8 percent to 30,325 units during the first quarter of 2020.

In the context of the 2019 U.S. market and also world markets, it appears that 2019 was a good year for Cadillac. It's interesting that in the U.S. for calendar year 2019 Sales, only 17.5% of Cadillac sales was for car models.

Non-seasonally adjusted passenger car sales in the U.S. for 2019 declined 10.9% to 4.7 million units, versus 5.3 million units in 2018, according to an S&P Global Market Intelligence analysis.
Sales of trucks, minivans and SUVs for the year totaled 12.2 million units, up 2.8% from the 2018 figure of 11.9 million units.
The overall non-seasonally adjusted U.S. vehicle sales for the period fell 1.4% to 17.0 million units, versus 17.2 million units a year ago. -- from S&P report by    Chris Hudgins,Tayyeba Irum

Others can speculate about 2020 sales results...

Oh John,   The future for luxury car sales, or non-essentials in general, does not bode well.   I am ever cognizant that we want to enjoy and explore our Cadillac and LaSalle brands, and not change the subject to the present day crisis.   So, ending on a positive note, I think the future looks positive for Cadillac sales and a future that is not affected by the present crisis, and, of course, we can all take solace in the fact that as the present day Cadillac rises as a luxury brand, our "legacy autos" tend to increase in scarcity value and amplify our personal pride of ownership.

So, only 40% of Cadillacs are sold in the US.  I'd guess more than 50% are sold (and made) in China.  Is there a country-by-country breakout?

2019 was another record year for Cadillac.  2020 won't be, unfortunately.

Sales for Cadillac in the U.S. had also increased in 2015.

Q2 sales numbers should be pretty bad but hopefully things will start to turn around by Q3.
